One of the questions people often ask is, I signed on to the forum, now what? What should I post about?

Great question. There are a lot of forums out there (not just this one) and the vast majority of people register, sign on once or twice and never return.

Surveys suggest the one of most common reasons for this is that they don't know what to say.

Here are a few suggestions:

1) Think of the forum as a place for show-and-tell ... something that is often hard to do at a club meeting. So, start off by showing us something from your collection. Anything will do. No deep analysis is required. It doesn't have to be a perfect example. If you want, no pressure, you can add a line or two about why you like it ... the design? It's a new acquisition, it's something I've had for a long time, It evokes a memory. Anything at all. If you feel so inclined, tell a story. But that's up to you. Start out simple. Show us somethig you like.

2) Play a game or start a theme .. show us a stamp with, for example, a train and invite others to join in.

3) Post a cover or stamp that has a postmark from today's date.

4) Start a thread called, for example, Korean Stamps ... and then post a stamp from your collection every day.

Have fun. Jump in. Just pretend we're all your houses guests and you're showing us your collection. We're all happy to pull up a chair.

And, if you see something others have posted, feel free to comment on it. Do you like it? Do you have something similar? Did it make you think of something? Do you have a question? This is a friendly and supportive space to let your inner stamp collector out to play.

How to add pictures to your posts

Adding pictures to your posts livens things up and makes the Forum so much more interesting.

An important point to understand is that pictures that are only uploaded as "Attachments" can not be viewed by non-registered guests. It makes things frustrating for any visitors! And for registered members, they're all stuck at the end of your post.

So it's good to learn how to "Insert" your pictures into your post. You can then caption them properly and write text above and below - make it more like a little magazine article. Much more enjoyable for your fellow club members too.

Here's how you do it: (Click on any of these pictures to see a larger version)

Step 1: upload the picture as an "Attachment". Click on "Choose Files". A browse box will open. Find your picture(s) on your computer and click on it (them). Then click "Open". (Hint: you can highlight multiple files at once by holding down the Ctrl key while you left click with your mouse. They will all be uploaded together.)

add-pics1.jpg Size: 134.59 KB Downloads: 3

Step 2: "Choose Files" will now be followed by the number of files you chose i.e. "4 files", or the file name if it is only one file. Click on "Add Attachment"

Step 3: Place your cursor where you would like the picture to appear.

add-pics2.jpg Size: 140.75 KB Downloads: 2

Step 4: Click on "Insert into Post" . A placeholder will appear where your cursor was located. If it ends up in the wrong place, or you want to rearrange the layout, cut and paste the placeholder (including the [ ] ) to where you want it to go.

add-pics3.jpg Size: 145.32 KB Downloads: 3

Then just "Preview" your post, rearrange things to look nice, then make sure to "Save" the post, and you're done.

add-pics4.jpg Size: 73.09 KB Downloads: 2

Another hint: Text immediately following a picture on the same line is annoying. Please insert your pictures on their own line and place your text either above or below.

BTW: There is a size limit on pictures. They must be smaller than 1MB (1024 KB). If you are posting pictures from you camera, you will likely have to resize them smaller. 1 MB is still a very large picture on a computer monitor!

If you have any questions, feel free to post replies here, then everybody can learn.

This Forum is moderated. In order to keep the tone of the Discussion Board professional and respectful we expect all Members to abide by the following terms of conduct:

a) The "Dinner Table Rules of Discussion" that my mother taught me: No politics, religion or off-color comments/jokes. Moderators will not allow an otherwise non-political discussion to drift into political commentary.

b) personal / ad hominem attacks or disparaging comments will not be tolerated. Communication must remain respectful. (Some forums get downright nasty). If you have a complaint about a member of the KSC, pursue it through official club channels, not publicly in this Forum. (i.e. contact a member of the executive).

c) Buy and sell ads should be about specific transactions, items, lots, wanted. General advertising and promotion of a member's business is not allowed.

d) Messages will appear immediately, however are subject to immediate removal or modification by a Moderator if they break the rules.

e) Private communication is available through the Forum. If you want only the recipient to see a response, find and use the "Private Message" system. Abuses of the Private Message system are subject to disciplinary action if reported to the Administrator (including the revoking of Forum privileges).

e) Posting of a message to the Forum accepts these terms, as well as any additions or modifications that may be posted here.

f) This Discussion Board may be seen by everyone, but only registered club members may post.
DO NOT put contact or other personal information (names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses) into your posts. Registered users can click on your profile and get whatever contact detail you have chosen to share with club members. That way, they are hidden from everyone else.

g) Registration for this board is open only to club members. When you register, the webmaster will check your name and email address against the club member list. If you aren't on it, your registration will be denied.
